Michael Ende

Two people search for each other, waiting for love. “They know nothing about each other”, Ende wrote. “Not even if the other one exists. Still they keep searching, unwavering. (…) All seems like a maze. Nobody knows exactly where they are. (…) The violence they have to fight against is not a tangible violence that causes them harm, it is time itself that is running out for them. At stake is their lives.
The absurd theatre had had its influence also on Michael Ende. With “Die Hässlichen” (The Ugly) he presents himself as a student of Samuel Becket whose “Waiting for Godot” was directed by Frits Kortner in Munich 1953.
